Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization that holds chili cook-offs to benefit charities or other nonprofit organizations. Winners of the Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc cook-offs qualify to compete at the International Chili Society (ICS) World's Championship Chili Cook-off. The ICS is the largest food contest, festival organization in the world!
Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc is very proud that in the past 13 years we have raised $170,000 for charities and nonprofit organizations here in Southeast Michigan. Charities who have received at least $5,000 include: Make a Wish Foundation, The Rainbow Connection, Plymouth Salvation Army, Bridgepoint, Michigan Youth Soccer Association and Habitat for Humanity.
Background 1985 - Founders Ken & Annette Horn began competing at Chili Cookoffs.1996 - Ken & Annette decided to bring a chili cookoff to downtown Plymouth. The first cookoff raised $4,000 for charity but that was just the beginning. 1999 - Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc was formed as a 501(c) 3 organization. Today the annual event on the first Sunday in October in Plymouth attracts 20,000 chili and motorcycle fans.

All net proceeds raised from the Great Lakes Regional Chili cook-offs are given to local charities and non-profits. Here's a breakdown of how proceeds were disbursed for the 2008 event:
33% - City of Plymouth services 6% - Rental 6% - Printing/Promotion 4% - Prizes 3% - Merchandise 3% - Entertainment 4% - Other 41% - Charity 100%
